Sophie Duez (b. 2003, Norfolk, UK) is an oil painter whose work explores desire and emotional tension through the charged embodiment of the figure. Raised in sacred spaces and shaped by a sensitivity to music, beauty and discipline, as well as living with double vision since childhood, her practice is grounded in both sensation and form. She has exhibited across the UK and internationally, and will soon begin the MA Painting programme at the Royal College of Art in London.

Her work explores the emotional tension, desire and presence through isolated figurative depictions and charged surfaces. She draws on art historical and contemporary influences, from 17th-century Dutch painters, to 18th-century European sculpture. She believes in displaying a deep understanding and appreciation of her work’s roots while eliciting an immediate emotional response.
